On May 1, 2024, Victoriaville launched an ambitious plan to mitigate the effects of heat islands, supported by innovative eco-tax measures and mapping solutions from XEOS Imaging.
The plan also aims to maintain a high level of well-being for residents, supporting the 3-30-300 objective:
- All residents must be able to see at least 3 trees from their windows.
- Live in neighborhoods with 30% tree cover.
- Less than 300 m from a park or green space larger than 1 ha.
Thanks to the detailed tree mapping provided by XEOS Imaging, the municipality was able to :
- Accurately assess the percentage of canopy per property to establish targeted taxation to establish the cost of the canopy loss fee when applying for a building permit;
- Guarantee the presence of at least one frontage tree per property on its territory.
With this data, the municipality has a factual overview of its tree cover, enabling it to adjust its priorities and guide its urban development.
Concrete, lasting results
With the support of XEOS Imaging solutions, Victoriaville was able to optimize its resources, gain a better understanding of its territory and proactively advance towards its environmental objectives.
